A study by Breslau et al. (Biol. Psychiatry 39, 411, 1996) evaluated association between sleep disturbance and psychiatric disorder in sample of 21-30 year-old members of a large health maintenance organization (HMO) in Michigan. Of the 676 subjects with no history of insomnia, 120 subjects were diagnosed with phobia (any type). 42 of 167 subjects with a history of insomnia were diagnosed with phobia.
