A system needs to be designed for a medication dispenser and medication reminder system that is required for in-home care of early stage dementia sufferers. The system must have a medical pill dispenser which needs to be designed to be printed by a 3d printer. Wireless transmission identifier tags are to be located on the clothes of the home occupants to distinguish one of two individuals. These are found to be available and cost 30 dollars each. The pill dispenser has to dispense only two different pills (one kind for each person in the home). This must be done every day at 7am (tablets recommended to be taken in the morning). Two small DC permanent magnet motors and associated speed reduction gearing are included in the available parts list. These cost 20 dollars each. The dispenser must use a microcontroller. It also must have a 555 timer heartbeat circuit and an electronic display. The Wireless transmission identifier tags need a 3.3V DC source to be powered. It must be designed for exactly two occupants. It must be able to identify the individuals in the home and dispense the correct medication. It must also have the feature that it can notify a responsible adult / nurse or relative if medications are not taken within an hour of being due, for which connectivity to an internet of things service is required.

1) [8 marks] Design and Draw the functional Block diagram of this system. Include all required hardware and software modules and communications components for an Internet of Things based ecte250 application with a 350 dollars parts budget. Assume that the ecte250 kits are free, all extra expenses including the cost of the DC permanent magnet motors and identifier tags are part of the 350 dollar expenditure budget (need this for part 3 below).

2) [3 marks] Create a Gantt chart for this project. It must include all deliverables in a typical ecte250 project. Assume that the team has only four members.

3) [3 marks] Include an estimated budget for this proposed project and an estimate of labour costs involved in designing and building the project (use the ecte250 student costs per hour). Parts budget must not exceed the $350 limit or penalty marks will apply (see part 1 above).

4) [6 marks] Explain (in detail) why you have chosen the design for part 1 elements (above) and justify technically ALL decisions / assumptions taken in choosing the design elements for this project. Must include an explanation of how this design meets the requirements of the two occupants with early stage dementia.
