a. Tolerance training: In tolerance training, you identify a X length time for nonoccurrence of behavior. When this criterion (e.g., length of time) is met, you terminate Matthew involvement of social or instructional situation. Remind Matthew prior to the start of class to complete task/activity or stay with group for X amount of then Matthew can engage in preferred task or move to an alternative area in the class. For instance, if class are to complete a writing assignment for 30 minutes, then Matthew should be expected to sit at his desk for 30 minutes before demand is withdrawn then he can access preferred task/activity. Identify a visual duration that Matthew has to engage in a non-preferred task/activity (e.g., writing, circle time) before obtaining a preferred task (drawing/tablet/area in the room). Reinforcement can appear as a menu of rewards such as allowing Matthew to engage in social play, have off-topic comments, staff should consistently provide verbal praise for displaying expected behaviors (completing task etc.)
