A topic that is central to the study of management is the relationship between self-management and the management of others. What does it take to manage others? To address this topic, we begin with the theory concerning 'Adaptability Intelligence,' or A.Q. Is it reasonable to assume that if we practice this theory in our personal life that it can help us if we seek the challenge and reward of managing others? Here's what we mean by 'adaptability intelligence' in order to understand personal or self- management as a step towards the professional management of others: Adaptability intelligence can be expressed in the equation A.Q.= I.Q.+E.Q.+C.Q. We say that adapting to the constant change in managing is a matter of combining our cognitive skills (math, reason, critical thinking) with our emotional skills (patience, compassion, empathy and objectivity) with intercultural awareness/skills (based on diversity, equity, inclusion, respect, curiosity) in our global world. If we practice A.Q. in our personal life, will we be able to learn to manage others? If we learn to manage others by practicing A.Q., can this help us to learn to be true and competent leaders of others? In our Discussion, reflect on these two questions....Come up with your opinion and share why you think as you do. There may not necessarily be a single correct answer. This has to do with the fact that in the real world, our personalities and perceptions are all different
