A virtually real "in field" risk assessment in a non-serious environment. Here is amap for a 10-day winterrace(Opens PowerPoint Presentation attached).

Four days are by car, 2 days are by dogsled, and the rest are on foot for the duration of the race. As team leader, you have been given an operational checklist that is to be reviewed by your classmates on the discussion board. There is a 1 million dollar prize for the first person to finish the race. Your team wants to win, but there is no prize if a team member is injured and cannot finish the race. Using the checklist and the map, draw your course through the hazards and post a picture of it.

Post those risks that you think are acceptable and those risks you are not willing to take a chance on. Include your course for the race and your reasons for some risks being acceptable while others are not acceptable. Also share with us what would you tell your team in advance about the race/trip.

In Field Risk Assessment & Checklist

A Field Risk Assessment must be completed and submitted as part of the Trip Plan in this activity. The followingIn Field Risk Assessment Template & Checklist(attached)has been provided to assist with the risk assessment completion for this activity. Not all hazards will be applicable.

Add "yes" under the "Comply" column if you will apply the control to maintain team safety. Add "no" if you feel the risk is unacceptable and you will use it to make up time in the race.
