A well-written definition of the target behavior is critical to assessing and subsequently addressing the target behavior. The definition for a target behavior has several important characteristics that provide an accurate, concise and complete description of the behavior to be changed or modified.

In your initial post:

1. Describe these important characteristics and identify at least one benefit of an explicit, well-written definition of a target behavior.
2. Additionally, an appropriate observation and data recording method that allows direct and frequent measurement of the behavior must be identified. Refer to the decision-making model on page 98 of Cooper, Heron, and Heward (2020) of the assigned readings and include in your post a summary of how you might select a measurement method.

3. Complete an operationally defined target behavior of anecdotal observation below (squeezing). Be sure to include examples and non-examples of behavior in your definition. Select and complete an appropriate measurement procedure. Be sure to specify the exact measurement procedure you will use (e.g., event recording, duration, latency, partial interval) and describe how the data will be summarized (e.g., rate, frequency count, percentage of intervals scored, etc).
