ABC Ltd uses control accounts to check the accuracy of its trade receivables and trade payables as shown in the sales and purchases ledgers. The Purchases Ledger Control Account prepared for the year ending 31 December 20X6 showed a balance of $323 000. At the financial year end 31 December 20X6, total of trade payables as per list of purchases ledger balances amounted to $304 500, which was different from its Purchases Ledger Control Account balance at that date. The following errors were subsequently discovered. (i) (ii) (iii) 3 (iv) Purchases of $3 500 from G Brooks were correctly entered in the purchases daybook but nothing was posted in the Purchases Ledger. L Haggard is both a customer and a supplier of ABC Ltd. His account in the purchase ledger showed a balance of $24 700 whereas the sales ledger account had a balance of $15 000. The sales ledger balance has been set-off against his balance in the purchase ledger but no entry was made in the control accounts. Return outwards of $4 300 had not been recorded anywhere in the books. A cheque for $5 300 issued to K Brown, a supplier, had been dishonoured but no entry has yet been made for the return of the original cheque. Brown has not yet issued a replacement cheque. REQUIRED (a) (b) An adjusted Purchases Ledger Control Account for the year. The Statement to reconcile total of purchase ledger balances with the corrected Purchases Ledger Control account balance.
