Able mentioned to them how impressed she was with the daring and skill of the persons responsible for the recent crimes. Baker then suggested that a nearby drugstore would be a "pushover" to rob. Able decided to join in the robbery, in hopes of obtaining evidence of Baker's and Charley's past crimes. All three drove to the store, which was operated by Dogge. While Baker waited in the car, Charley mingled with several customers in the part of the store nearest the entrance. Able approached Dogge, drew her gun, and handed Dogge a note that read, "I am a police undercover agent. Pretend to be frightened. Give me the money in the cash register." Dogge complied with Able's direction. Able turned to leave, and, as she neared Charley, Dogge drew a gun from beneath the counter and fired at Able. The shot missed Able, but struck Easey, a customer who was standing in the line of fire. Charley then drew his gun and shot Dogge. Immediately after the shooting, Able replaced the money in the cash register and went to the aid of Dogge. Baker and Charley fled, but were later apprehended. Dogge recovered from his wounds. Easey initially showed improvement toward recovery of her wounds, but she subsequently contracted a virus while still in the hospital and died.
