According to schneider and Ingram, why do contenders, such as people of color, often have lower rates of voting and participation in political processes? I think within their theory of social contstructions and the messages that come from them, for contenders in particular they have a lack of trust in the government and believe they rule in favor of those in private power rather than public interests. In turn, the partipation is lower due to this. They don't see the government working in their favor or helping them so they have little trust in participating as they believe it wont matter much.
