According to the recent estimates, Afghanistan had approximately $10bn in Official Reserves before US evacuation. News reports indicate that Taliban forces tried to search for them inside the Afghan Central bank Da Afghanistan bank (DAB). Fortunately for the Afghans, these were held almost entirely as $9bn in US Treasury bonds placed at Federal reserve bank of New York. However, the Taliban may have obtained DAB's foreign currency holdings worth around $352 million held at the bank's head offices and branches, as well as the presidential palace, provided it was not looted by the departing president now in exile and other corrupt ones.
