Sinek’s model for inspirational leadership starts with a golden circle and the question, “Why?” The centre (focal point) of the circle is why a business does what it does. Next is “how” it does what it does, and last is “what” it does. Sinek (2009) states that inspired organizations create their corporate strategies first by identifying why they do what they do. This allows them to connect with customers who have a similar focus and interest. For this exercise, research a company that has a clear “why” or a company that does not have a clear “why.” For the former, you might consider companies that you purchase goods from. Provide an overview of the company, and describe the company’s “why.” If you chose a company that doesn’t have a clear “why,” provide an overview of the company’s strategy and mission.
