Active load switching is a technique in which an active component (component capable of amplification and rectification) is used as a load in the circuit. Generally Mosfets are used. Sometimes in an integrated circuit we need large resistance to be fabricated. For example in a differential amplifier we need a very large value of emitter resistance for high CMRR. It is not feasible to fabricate such large resistances using passive componets because magnitude of resistance is directly proportional to size the size of passive components. Hence we use loads made of active components, such as mosfets whose resistance can go very high even though being very small in size. An active load with a mosfet can be made by simply connecting its gate with drain. Load switches act as relays though they dont have any 'moving' parts as conventional relays have. They are used in set top boxes, mobile phones, computer motherboards, communication devices, sound systems etc 2) Mosfets have truly revolutionised the world of electronics because of thier superiority in many aspects as compared to thier contemporary technologies. First and foremost is the power consumption. As compared to BJTs they intake very less power because of very high input
