Activity 1 :

Have a conversation with your Critical Friend about communicating with teams and team members. Discuss with them:

• Features of open and supportive communication.
• Role and theories of motivation as they apply to management of teams and individuals.
• The role of a leader/manager to provide information to individuals and teams.
• The role of a leader/manager in communicating within a team, between other teams or within an organization.
• Communicating team or individual deficiencies and how they are different.
• How a leader responds to feedback from individuals or a team.

Responses 

• Briefly describe the issues you discussed.
• Analyze and reflect on what you consider you would do to maximise  communicating with teams and team members.
• Identify any issues or opportunities for improvement that your Critical Friend has identified and whether you would adopt these in the future and why or why not.
• Identify any other related relevant issues that you have considered since you reflected on your example and your discussion with your Critical Friend.

 

Activity 2

Have a conversation with your Critical Friend about using leading a team. Discuss with them:

• Features of different leadership styles.
• Roles and functions performed by supervisors and managers.
• Characteristics of effective leadership.
• Characteristics and benefits of effective teams.
• Recognition of team and individual work performance.
• Potential team problems.
• Relationships with others in the workplace.

Responses 

• Briefly describe the issues you discussed.
• Analyze and reflect on how you would use communication to get the most out of the team.
• Identify any issues or opportunities for improvement that your Critical Friend has identified and whether you would adopt these in the future and why or why not.
