 address the following:

  • Which of your peer's recommendations did you find most compelling, surprising, or innovative?
  • One important theme of this course is the need for most companies to innovate on a regular basis or risk falling behind their competitors. The same can be said for employees.
  • What skills can you add to your toolbox to future-proof your career?
  • What skills can you acquire to support an innovative culture at your organization?

1. What was your strategy for choosing incremental or discontinuous innovation in Milestone One? The strategy I choose was discontinuous innovation. I though it was the better strategy for the company since they have the goal of becoming the most important car manufacturing company. Also, that industry is very competitive and always innovating which is also another reason that the company needs to implement new technology and new products that can compete in the market with new and existing companies.

What were your reasons for selecting the processes for managing innovation you used in Milestone Two? The reason was to promote a culture of innovation within the organization and implement the discontinuous innovation strategy. If the company wants to come up with new ideas and products they need to contribute with ways to encourage innovation for all team members.

How do your recommendations for the organization structure promote a climate for innovation in your project? The main recommendation to promote a a climate for innovation is to have the different teams of the company work on just one project and have one manager to report. That will allow them to have more flexibility and focus in just one project at a time. That structure will be less centralized and will have different managers also focusing on a specific project.

 questions:

What was your strategy for choosing incremental or discontinuous innovation in Milestone One?

My strategy for Milestone One was to go with Discontinuous Innovation for a number of reasons. Based on the financial information provided, Option A (Discontinuous) was the better option when it came to revenue and profit over the long run. I liked Discontinuous Innovation also because it was better for specific customer niches (Tidd & Bessant, 2022). My opinion is when a company can lock in a specific customer niche, they find themselves highly successful in that area.

What were your reasons for selecting the processes for managing innovation you used in Milestone Two?

I chose the Discontinuous process for managing the innovation for a variety of reasons. One was the company was forecasted to not be doing well in the years to come and losing a large portion of market share (Milestone Two). Other reasons I knew was the company could pivot into specific market niches or use vertical integration to sells resources to other companies (Milestone Two).

How do your recommendations for the organization structure promote a climate for innovation in your project?

The current organizations culture made communication difficult (Organization Overview). I recommended a leaner structure like that of the Skunk Works team. The Skunk Works team had a group of isolated engineers which allowed them to focus on their project and communicate and make decisions quickly (Bessant, n.d.). It was important for the organization to act like the Skunk Works team in creating a climate of risk taking and the safety to be bold (Bessant, n.d.).
