Affirmative action in admissions is an ongoing issue that colleges and universities must keep in mind. Historically, the field of student affairs and university admissions have promoted the value of diversity to the development of undergraduates (and people in general) and strived for fairness in admissions policies.

Currently the recent U.S. Supreme Court is posed to rule that race conscious admissions policies are unlawful, and yet the need for diversity in admissions remains essential. What has been the history of affirmative action in the courts? What are the considerations and key points that need to be made in light of the possibility of a such a ruling? How can educational diversity be achieved without directly taking account of race?
