After a half semester of Industrial Systems classes, you are feeling extremely confident about your ability to make a profit producing and selling chemical products. You decide to partner with someone in your class and turn your knowledge into $$$$$. Your choice chemical for this venture is Acrylic Acid, produced from Glycerol by the following chemical reaction:
C_3 H_8 O_3+O_2->C_3 H_4 O_2+H_2 O
Mass Balance (Reaction). Your hourly production rate is 2300 kg/hr. Assume your reaction has 97% conversion, 77% yield, and oxygen is supplied 30% in excess from ambient air. Of the two exiting steams, the liquid stream is pure acrylic acid, and the vapour stream is water, unreacted oxygen/air, all by-products, and it contains 5% of all the acrylic acid produced. Complete the mass balance for your product, including the side reaction from Task 1. Summarize your results in 2 tables: a mole balance table and a mass balance in a table. Use units of kg/hr and kmol/hr. Show your calculations in the appendices but put the tables in the executive summary.
