Case Study:

Kanye is a mandated client assigned to you because he works as a MTA conductor. Kanye has had several substance tests that are mandated by the MTA to establish safety for the public. 

Kanye has had several positive results on his substance use exams and is mandated to a substance use group treatment program and a weekly session with you. He has shown up to the group

and seen him intoxicated on several occasions. You are preparing to complete your report for the courts. Use the OARS process and the motivational articles to provide an example of your conversation

with Kanye to begin to change his behaviors.

Open-ended Questions: Kanye, I would like to know how you've been feeling about the group treatment program and the drug usage tests you took recently. Could you tell me about your life experiences and thoughts on this situation?

Affirmation: I want to emphasize that reaching out for a conversation with me shows your determination. It's commendable that you're taking the initiative to address these issues to ensure public safety. 

Reflection: 

Kanye: " It's been pretty challenging, you feel me? I didn't think I had a problem, but the positive test results and the incidents at the group sessions have got me thinking. " 

Social Worker: I understand you're facing a challenging situation, and those positive test results turned into a surprise. It can be tough to confront these issues. 

Summarize: Let's review what we've talked about, Kanye. You've had several positive test results, and the group sessions have been tough for you. But you're here, which shows you're taking this seriously. Moving forward, our goal is to work together to help you make positive changes and ensure safety in your role as an MTA conductor. How do you feel about starting this journey together? Are there any other points you'd like to consider?
