After reading "Why GDP fails as a Measure of Well-Being", I learned about the difference between GDP and other alternative metrics, and about the disadvantages to using GDP. One altenrative metric that can be used is the Happy Planet Index, which I find to be interesting. This is a measure of how happy people are and how sustainable their happiness is. The founder of the Happy Planet Index said in a TedTalk that "Good lives shouldn't cost the earth". I think that the HPI would be a better measure of well being because part of the data is based off of peoples happiness, and the other part of the data is based off of peoples sustainability. This reveals the well-being of the individual and of the planet/environment. thoughts on this discussion
