After reviewing some concepts and thoughts in the slides, think about times where you have been motivated in the workplace by a leader. Or unmotivated.

Each job or career that a person has, is usually obtained through an interest in the position, and an amount of qualifications necessary to get the job! But if you think about the application, interview and screening process, then the probation period, training and ultimate job itself, a person needs to be motivated!

We are obviously motivated by money, as we need it to pay our bills and mortgages, or to provide for our kids...the list is obviously endless of what we need money for.

But there are other reasons to be motivated. Intrinsically we want to be successful and proud of ourselves, to do a good job and connect with the humans we work with. Extrinsically we want to be accepted, acknowledge and part of a successful team!

For this discussion, please tell me and the class about how this has played out in your life.

When and why were you motivated? Were you pressured by parents, friends or family? Were you positively motivated and supported on that journey. Did the job you applied for match your interests or education? These things will play a factor in your motivation to succeed or even stay in the job/career.

ALSO, how did the leaders in your life play a role in your journey? Work, sports, family, play or life...how have the leaders been a positive or negative influence? What qualities have the leaders you have experienced had that helped or hindered you? What leadership style do you feel you have? Are you a leader? What are your thoughts on leadership in the workplace or life in general?
