After reviewing the chapter 12 from book( The Leadership Experience, 7th Edition Richard L. Daft Cengage Learning, 2018)consider the information below, accessYouTube, and view the applicable scene from the movie Crimson Tide (1995).

Background: Enemy military units are threatening nuclear war. A US Navy submarine is assigned the mission to patrol enemy waters and remain available to launch missiles in apreemptivestrike if the enemy attempts to fuel their own nuclear missiles.Aboard the US Navy submarine, tensions between the Captain (Capt. Ramsey played by actor GeneHackman)and his second-in-command (Lt. Commander Hunter played by actorDenzelWashington)become apparent due to a clash of personalities, ideologies and leadership styles.

Scene Setting: Having previously received an order to launch missiles, the submarine was in the process of receiving a second order that gets cut off / interrupted in an attack by the enemy. The submarine's radio is damaged; as a result, the second order it was receiving cannot be confirmed or decoded. As the last confirmed order was in fact to launch their missiles, Capt. Ramsey wants to proceed, but he needs Lt. Hunter's procedural consent.

Lt. Hunter, on the other hand, wants to first attempt to confirm the second, interrupted order, believing that it may be a retraction of the first.

Scene: This clip is of the confrontation between Ramsey and Hunter. A witness and eventual participant in the scene is the Chief of the Boat (COB).This movie is rated R, and the scene involves a profanity. While the word/phrase does not detract from the scene's message, make sure toconsider the volumeon your device.
