After two full weeks of this class, you should be falling into a routine of work and mindfulness practicing. Last week we learned about paying attention to our own breath. This sound easy enough, but honestly, this is very challenging for many of us. We are used to being busy, our mind going all the time, the energy in our body rushing always because life demands this but our body is tired. Right now, I want you to stop for 1-2 minutes and focus on your breath. Nothing but your breath. In and out. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to focus on your breath. Do this until you have successfully only focused on your breath for at least 20 seconds. Sounds easy, right? But is it? Tell me about it here.
The purpose of this assignment is to stop and take a breath. Feel our own breath going in and out of us and our mind to be only be focused on the breath. Giving ourselves these couple of minutes is the start of something greater for our own health, mental well-being, patience, and understanding. Life begins with the first breath--a breath we never think about--it's time to start thinking about the act of breathing.
