Alberta province is an example of a region that has historically been seen as a peripheral territory. The majority of Alberta is made up of rural areas, and as a result, the province has fewer chances for economic growth compared to the central regions of Ontario and Quebec. Nonetheless, Alberta was able to make the move from an area that was considered to be on the province's periphery to one that is now considered to be in the province's core region partly due to the growth of the oil and gas industry in the province. Because of this, there has been a rise in investment, an improvement in infrastructure, and access to global markets, all of which have contributed to Alberta's growing integration with the economy of the rest of Canada
