Alcohol and oesophageal cancer: Investigators conducted a 1-year cohort study of 5,000 adults who consume high amounts of alcohol (>20 g per day, the equivalent of 2-6 alcoholic drinks per day), and 8,000 adults who consume low amounts of alcohol (<20 g per day, the equivalent of less than 2 alcoholic drinks per day). Among those with high alcohol consumption, they recorded 45 cases of oesophageal cancer and among those with low consumption, there were 48 cases of oeasophageal cancer (see table below).
