Alexandra Brown is a 55-year-old Hispanic worker at Razor Speed Grocery Store. She was one of the three females and the only woman employed as a stock person. She has been employed with the company for 22 years as a stock person. Her job requires her to lift 20-pound palates and work for long hours. Recently, there was a change in management and the new manager, Blake Heisman, is dissatisfied with Alexandra's performance. Alexandra has received an outstanding performance evaluation for the last 20 years. One day, Alexandra overheard Blake tell other managers that "Hispanic women are lazy and stupid. He was not going to promote or adequately compensate her for job performance." Unbeknownst to Alexandra, every male employee in the grocery store received a one dollar pay increase. Even Bubba, the slowest stocker ever, received a raise! Blake decided to limit Alexandra's duties. She no longer works as a stock person because she was transferred to the deli department. Apparently, Blake thought it was a health and safety risk for older woman to life 20-pound palates. Alexandra did not ask for a transfer, nor did she say that she could not perform her job. As a result of Blake's actions, Alexandra did not receive the annual $2,500 bonus that all stockers receive. When Alexandra approached Blake, he told her she could "just retire and shut-up. He did not need an old buzzard on his staff anyway!" Eventually, Alexandra retired because Blake made the work environment so oppressive with the "old jokes and his racial comments."
