You are the analytics coordinator for F.C., the 2020 Independent Presidential candidate. Mr. C wishes to travel from California (approximately at the California end of Route 66 in Santa Monica) to Chicago, Illinois in a fleet of electric cars while campaigning during the election process.

Mr. C doesnt need to exactly follow (in reverse) the old Route 66, and has given you some parameters on possible ways to travel from CA to IL (using two digit state codes). The map showing possible links and nodes in your Road Rally network is provided. There are 19 nodes and 34 (bi-directional) links. Distances are provided (assume distances are the same regardless of the direction a link is traveled).

Mr. C wishes to find the least distance way to go from CA to IL. There are a few additional requirements he wishes you to meet in his planned route.

Each state, other than CA and IL, has an exposure value representing the value accrued to the candidate if he passes through that state. (It is provided to you in a separate table). Your path should visit states such that at least 115 exposure points are obtained.

Additionally, Mr. C wishes to make campaign stops and give speeches at at least 4 different recharging station hubs during the road rally event. There are a total of 8 hubs accessible in the planned area of travel four of them located on links in the road rally network and four of them associated with nodes (states). The planned path should pass through at least 4 of these linksodes.

Determine the optimal path of the road rally. Explain the solution by showing how it meets the exposure and recharging hub requirements as you trace its path across the county.

Comment: Dont double count anything - I would suggest not allowing loops in your path unless you can do so without double counting. Obviously, the optimal route must pass the smell test (i.e. no subtours). And friendly reminder Mr. C can travel in either direction on a link. Data is listed on the back. Map is shown under separate cover.

A total of 4 must be visited in the optimal campaign route. Exposure points - are by node/state. They cannot be double counted so perhaps it is best if you make sure you do not have 'loops'in your campaign route. (Certainly no subtours!).
