All I need is a peer reply for each individuals' discussions below separately please!

When responding to the discussions: a. Offer advice to one of your peers on their "gone wrong" scenario on what could be done differently. b. For your other peer reply, pick one of their items for conducting a coaching session (2.B. above) and elaborate on why that tip may not work.

Discussion #1 (Andres)

Coaching is more on the side of evaluation and taking steps to further enhance skills and talents by setting goals and achievements to reach. Counseling on the other hand is more emotional and deals with issues and things that are happening in the now

A. No it wasn't difficult to have a coaching session though the person that I picked, I have a really good relationship with so it was mainly just a laughing sort of conversation which ended up getting a little serious. In a way you could say it turned into a counseling session.

B. That's the hardest part of the session was getting to be serious. The sort of relationship I have with my friend is one that has never taken too serious so it was hard to put ourselves in that mindset.

C. Some advice I say is Lays some ground rules before the session begins and have a cap limit of maybe 20 minutes.

I remember not too long ago I overheard a conversation, a coworker, and a superior of ours were having over my coworkers performance. my coworker said one thing that my supervisor didn't like about his evaluation which led my supervisor to get emotional and angry at my coworker. he eventually got kicked out of my office by my supervisor and threatened to be fired. It could've been handled very differently by keeping emotions out of the conversation and only focus on the facts on the performance at hand.

Discussion #2 (Devin)

Good afternoon, class,

Explain the difference between coaching and counseling (in yourown words).

I believe when you are coaching someone you are trying to develop them to improve performance in specific areas for the business. When you are counseling someone it more tends to be mental for the person well-being.

Select a person in your life (co-worker, friend, family member, or someone you know well). Have a coaching session with them and then answer the following questions:

  1. Was it difficult to have a coaching session (did it turn into a counseling session)?
    1. My daughter has recently started taking up basketball and I have been teaching her how to dribble the ball with one hand. It never turned into a counseling session I just keep coaching her how to get better.
  2. What was the hardest part of the session?
    1. The hardest part was trying to get her to dribble with one hand she always wants to use both hands.
  3. How would you recommend conducting a coaching session (what environment, how long, how to start, etc)?
    1. I will be coaching her every day that I can. The timeline really realizes on how fast she can pick up the dribbling. I believe within the next week or so she will be able to dribble with one hand.

Pick a TV show/movie or previous example from your own life of a coaching session gone horribly wrong. Describe the situation and what you would do differently (as the coach).

A situation of me coaching someone that went horribly wrong was when I had to train a new trainee to be a shipping clerk. Every day I trained this person for about 4 weeks. Whenever I came in the next day, I asked are you ready to start the day he would be like yes and I would walk him through the steps. He would always ask the same questions over and over and never take any notes on what I was teaching him. This person wasn't very computer technical either so that was very frustrating because as a shipping clerk you need to know at least the basics about computer. Finally, after while I had to tell the leaders that this guy is not going to make it and we should get another person. Ways I could have handled this better would to be to maybe take some more time with him and not be so pushy because I have been in the position for so long I know everything that needs to happen to run a smooth shift.

Have a Great week!
