The goals I have for myself are as follows.

Be promoted to E-5/Sergeant by November 1st 2024

Finish paying off my truck by December of 2025

Become a U.S. Deputy Marshal

As a Sergeant I will influence more marines and be able to leave a bigger impact on the marines under my charge. After finishing paying off my truck I'll be dept free and be looking at getting a house. Becoming a U.S. Deputy Marshal has always been a goal of mine since I first found out about the agency years ago.

Having done counseling every month with the members in my squad, it can really hurt the integrity of the counseling by letting relationships and friendships get in the way. From my experience it's better to keep it professional but having worked with the same guys for so long it gets very difficult to separate the two.

A disciplinary technique I found useful with my marines is not really a disciplinary action but rather a consequence of less than satisfactory work. I've found staying later until work is completed is a good incentive to get good and on time work with my subordinates and to my understanding is in line with the recourses we learned about in this weeks texts.

For my SMART, some of the goals help in multiple areas. My end game is to retire running my own game store. This is going to take a few steps. I have to build my credit and savings. I will have to put together an evolving business plan and use it to keep up to day with market values and trends while updating the business plan frequently. Ideally, having at least a million in savings would be prudent. I believe that twenty-six years should be enough time to get everything set up. This should help me enjoy my retirement doing something I love, sharing my love of different types of games and allow me to be my own boss finally. Some hurdles I will have to overcome are maintaining motivation, building my credit up, and getting my savings up to the desired amount.

One of my good friends and I have actually had multiple counseling sessions together, both professionally (I used to be his boss for a short period of time) and personally, and normally over the same reason, his temper. On the clock, I had to remind him to calm down a few times. Off the clock, I talked him down a few times when he was ready to go off. Our brutal honestly with each other has always been something that strengthened our bond.

When it comes to disciplinary actions, the ones that come to mind were of me being written up. As far as I can tell it was done with perfect technique. In fact, at least one time, my boss was trying to give me a verbal warning and I requested a write up, though my motivation for it was purely selfless as I was trying to give credibility to a new site supervisor so that my co-workers would not give him too many issues as he was not from our site originally.

My SMART goals are moving to Colorado, getting a better job, and completing my degree. Goal 1: Moving to Colorado. Specific: I want to move to Colorado within the next three months. Measurable: I need to save up money, move my job, and find an apartment. Achievable: I already have an apartment ready. I just need to work with my current job at Walmart. Then doa unit transfer for the National Guard. Realistic: I do believe it is achievable in the current time frame. As long as everything goes to plan. Timely: In the next three months. The main difficulty with goal one is trying to get my unit transfer approved in a timely manner. Goal 2: Getting a better job. Specific: When I move to Coloradoa better job than Walmart. Measurable: I just need to put applications in and try my hardest. Achievable: It is achievable just need to stand out. Realistic: I do think I can do it just have to work hard. Timely: I have more than enough time for this goal. A difficulty I would have would be getting a job that pays better. Goal 3: Completing my degree. Specific: I want to completemy bachelor's degree. Measurable: I just need to focus on the homework and getting it all done on time. Achievable: it is easily achievable to get this degree done. I just have to stay on top of it. Realistic: I one hundred percent believe I can dothis it is very realistic. Timely: I have more than enough time to dothis goal I just want it to be done within the next year or two. A difficulty with this goal would be staying on top of my work and making sure this degree works out in the end.

2. I talked about this with my friend and her opinion of it was that if it is a good relationship where favoritism does not come into play everything is okay in the work environment. But we discussed if the relationships did impact how counseling took place and we agreed that it can affect it mainly in negative ways even if that counseling was not supposed to be viewed negatively. In the end, it depends on how the relationship goes because negative counseling can hurt the relationship outside of work. 3. A disciplinary technique I had used on me was getting written up at work for not doing the morning checklist. It was proper because I stopped forgetting about it and started getting it done every morning. It was proper because had I not got written up, I probably would still have forgotten about it then which would affect how the job got done.
