All the directions are listed

The Drafting Project has two (2) parts. The first part is drafting a simple contract and the second part is drafting a simple cover letter enclosing the contract.

Directions for Part 1 (Drafting the Contract)

For this part of the Drafting Project, you will draft a simple contract regarding the sale of a ring. Here is the hypothetical fact situation you will use (taken in part from the Paralegal Portfolio Exercise in Chapter 4 of the textbook): A client, Sarah Smith, at the law firm where you work as a paralegal would like to enter into an agreement with Evonne Young. Sarah would like to sell to Evonne a one-carat square diamond ring that Sarah no longer wears. The diamond does have a slight flaw in it, which Sarah has pointed out to Evonne. But Sarah wants to make sure the agreement reflects the flaw, so there is no chance Evonne will ask for her money back due to the flaw. Sarah and Evonne have settled on a price of $800 for the ring. They want to close the deal on a date on August 8, 2018. The senior attorney in the law office, Marianna Rodriguez, has asked you to draft the contract for her review.

  • Refer to the Skill Building Exercises located in Chapters 1 through 4 in building the parts of a proper contract for assistance with drafting the contract.

Directions for Part 2 (Drafting the Cover Letter)

For this part of the Drafting Project, you will draft a simple cover letter to go to Evonne Young enclosing the contract. Being able to draft a cover letter enclosing a document on a client's behalf is especially important when employed as a paralegal. The letter should have all of the components of a transmittal letter (a professional letter enclosing a document or documents to be signed) as well as briefly listing the key points of the agreement.

  • You can make up the addresses as needed for the letter.
  • The letter should be drafted for the attorney's signature.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS........

  1. Your project MUST be submitted as either a Microsoft Word Document (.doc) or in Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  2. The file will NOT open if it is not saved correctly
  3. If the instructor cannot open your project by the deadline, points will be deducted
  4. Your project MUST be submitted as one document (both parts in same submission)
