Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) could be another way to overcome an impasse with a mediator. The goal is for all parties to be somewhat satisfied with the outcome. There are many different strategies to follow, here are a couple rules to follow to help through the impasse. (Office of Resolution Management, n.d.) Take breaks as often as needed - sometimes a break is needed to re-group If one area is taking too long, move to another then go back- circling back can give time for other ideas to arise Give each side to explain their perspectives- there is always two sides to everything What is wanted from both sides - future for both sides Suggestion of trial period - testing the waters Ask what each party is willing to offer or take away- what is needed (Office of Resolution Management, n.d.) Both of these positions are a good way to overcome an impasse
