Although there are other political parties, the reality is that the US has a two party system. Should it? Would a viable third party be a good thing or a bad thing (or a bit of both)?

This question seems particularly relevant as people often dislike the choices they are given by the two major parties and vote for the lesser evil.

If we had a serious third party, would we have to change the way we have elections? Consider this possibility: a third party (like the Libertarian Party or the Green Party which could play a role in this election) wins a few states and Trump and Biden split the rest pretty evenly. In that scenario neither Biden nor Trump reaches 270 Electoral College votes and Congress elects whomever they want as President and Vice President.
