Amanonin synthesis is a gas phase resction betwren nitrogen amd hydrogen at ca 350 C atad at a presere of ca 180 bar. N2+3H2=2NH3 Becanse there is not cospplete conversion in the reactor, it Es necesary to recycle ancoalverted gev after atmmonia is knocked out. The raakenp stean (stream 0) consists of 1 ul\% argoat (inest) that reabahn in gas phase. Therefore, it in necesesy to purge sotae of the gas in order to beop the inert concentration at a renoodable level. In this context we only look at the molar flosy, therefore the flowsloee does not show that strean 2 is cooled to a temperature where amanonii is condetsed and ofrenm 4 is recompressed. The flow rate of the makesp stream ts 1000kmol/h with a cotmponition of 24mol% nitrogen, 75 molX hydrogen and 1 molWe argot. In the separator all argon ends up in the gas phase (over top), and all annonia cads ap in the ligaid phase. Furthermore, we awume 99% of all hydrogen and 98% of all nitrogen goes oker top (on a molar basis). Assume a split Alow ratio of 95%, i.e. 5% of stream 3 gors to jarge, It the renctor we avaame that 30% of all nitrogen in streatu 1 is converted to ammonia. 1 TKP4165 - Spring 2023 M.
