On the day of admission to the hospital, she developed a headache, stiff neck, and light sensitivity. Upon physical examination, she did not have swollen glands but did have ulcerative lesions found during her pelvic exam. The patient stated that she had always been in good health and had no history of the sexually transmitted disease in the past.
