An epidemiologic(al) investigation that was started on June 1, 2017 and lasted through May 31, 2022, identified a population of 4,750 individuals believed to be at risk for the chronic disease under investigation. Following disease-related screening, 750 of the individuals were excluded at baseline and others were enrolled then, followed prospectively. During the study period, 124 and 236 new cases of the disease were found on May 31, 2019 and November 30, 2021 respectively. 85 were reported deceased from other causes on February 28, 2022. 125 individuals were lost to follow-up by September 1, 2020. There were no additional deaths or losses to follow-up. Further analysis at the end of the investigative period also revealed that 330 of the diseased were exposed to asbestos, and 30 were not.
