A beam spanning 7 m face to face between simple supports has a cross-section as shown in Fig. Q-3.3. It is reinforced for flexure with six H32 bars in two layers that continue uninterrupted to the ends of the span and has an effective depth of d = 775 mm. The beam is to carry a characteristic dead load of 40 kN/m (including self-weight) and a characteristic imposed load of 80 kKN/m, both uniformly distributed along the span. Assume an effective span of 8 m; fx = 500 MPa; and f, = 35 MPa.
(a) Check whether the section size is adequate to resist the design shear force.
(b) Determine the shear reinforcement required at the critical section.
(c) Determine the region in which minimum shear reinforcement is required.
A high strength steel with modulus of elasticity of A N/mm, yield strength of B N/mm and crushing strength of C N/mm is used for a test. In the instance of crushing total strain was measured as D a) Find the ductility of steel. b) What should be the diameter of the bar to carry a load of E KN without any plastic deformation.
