An unalloyed steel made cutting tool used for machining aluminium automobile parts has been found to work well, but you do not know the steel's composition. On the other hand, there is an urgent need for purchasing the cutting tool, for which you need to know the carbon % of the existing unalloyed steel cutting tool. The microstructure of the steel is very fine tempered martensite. Assume that: 

(1) You cannot estimate the composition of the steel from the structure. 

(2) There is no access to such equipment that would permit you to analyse the chemical composition directly. 

(3) From the past experience, it is known that the given unalloyed steel belongs to the family of hypereutectoid steels with carbon percentage between 0.77 and 1.1. (

4) Maximum absorption of carbon in: alfa Iron = 0.0218%, eutectoid steel = 0.77 %, steel = 2.11 %, and cementite = 6.67%.
