Introduction - Background
Any case analysis should include background information to provide context to others who may review it or desire to contribute if an analysis would benefit from multiple perspectives. Identify those facts you've found relevant and include them.
Analyze External and Internal Environment
External analysis refers to the study of the environment surrounding the organization, its competitors, suppliers, overall macro environment, and trends. Internal analysis is the study of the organization itself. Both are necessary to determine the starting point of effective strategic management.
Identify the key issues/ problems in the Case Study
Case studies describe a situation which may arise in a particular profession or social context. They often involve a number of people in a complex situation. They will often describe a situation which is problematic, possibly in how it is dealt with, or in its complexity. An important part of your answer is to analyze the situation and to identify the issues/actions described in the case which may be problematic.
The following questions may help you to do this:
- What actions were taken in the case?
- Were these actions the most appropriate and why?
- Were there any consequences of the actions taken?
- Was anything omitted or not considered?
- Were actions/procedures in line with existing codes of practice, policy or theories?
Linking it with the Capability Theory/Framework/Model
Use your knowledge of existing codes of practice, capability theories and/or other scholarly/professional documents and behaviors to decide what was done appropriately and what was not.
Uncover Possible Solutions/Changes Needed
Another part of a case analysis involves providing proposed solutions to the problems you've outlined in the previous steps. Share solutions that are viable, realistic and can be completed within any constraints, and consider placing the solutions you've come up with in order of importance so it's easier to digest this part of the case analysis.
For each solution, make sure to share what you believe will be the results of implementing the solution and explain why you have these predictions. Your evidence can include the research you've completed, interviews you've done, your personal experience or data you've collected.
Recommendation/Implication
By the time you get to the recommendations part of the case analysis, you'll likely have one major solution that you feel is the best one to carry out. Share the strategies you feel will be the best ones for realizing the goals of the analysis and being able to solve the problem you're studying.
Provide recommendations for how to resolve some of the other issues that are more minor, especially if these issues can be easily solved alongside any plans for the major problem. You can also include who would be responsible for which responsibilities and possibly delegate tasks.
