1. There are 10 firms in the market of cardiovascular medicines. Market share of the Ist firm is 15 %; 2nd - 10 %; 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th is 8 %; 7t is 6 %; 8th and 9th is 5 % and 10th is 3 %. Calculate Herfindahl - Hirschman index for these 10 firms. If the 2nd and the 3rd firms decide to join, will the government allow it? (You have to calculate index again considering that now there are 9 firms in the market and the market share of the 2"d firm is 10+8-18%). Joining is allowed if the index doesn't exceed 1900. 2. There are 10 firms in the market of medical products. Among them 3 firms are the largest. Market share of the Ist firm is 30 %, 2nd - 20% and 3rd - 5 %. Calculate Lind index for these three firms. If the market share of the Ist firm is 40%, will the government allow 1" and 2"d firms to join? (You have to calculate index again considering that the market share of the Ist firm is 40%) Joining is allowed if the index doesn't exceed 150%. 3. There are 35 firms producing medical products in the market. 4 firms have the largest market share: the Ist - 20 %, 2nd - 18%, 3rd - 10%, 4th - 5%. Calculate concentration index for 3 largest firms. If the 1" and the2nd firms decide to join, will the government allow it? Joining is allowed if concentration index for 3 largest firms after their joining doesn't exceed 45%
