My passion for understanding the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on quality of life stems from both personal and academic interests. PTSD, a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, has far-reaching consequences on individuals' daily lives. This topic is not just a research interest; it's a matter of deep personal relevance, as I have witnessed the profound effects PTSD can have on individuals and their families.

The research problem I am focusing on is the comprehensive understanding of how PTSD affects the quality of life of individuals. The purpose of this study is to explore the various dimensions through which PTSD influences the physical, emotional, and social aspects of life. This leads to my preliminary research question: "How does PTSD affect the quality of life in individuals who have experienced traumatic events?"

One of the challenges I'm facing in refining my research problem and question is ensuring that they are narrow enough to be manageable yet broad enough to capture the complexity of PTSD's impact on quality of life. Balancing specificity with the depth of inquiry is a delicate process. I am using the "Litmus Test" document to refine my research question, ensuring it aligns with the study's qualitative nature and addresses the problem's core. The primary challenge that stands out at this junction is how broad the research question is, as PTSD degrading one's quality of life is a common understanding in society and science, and furthering research in a broad manner may not add value.

Another challenge is framing a research question that is open-ended yet directed, a recommendation strongly emphasized in Creswell's work on qualitative research designs (Creswell, 2016). I am working on framing a question that allows for an in-depth exploration of personal experiences while remaining focused on the core topic of quality of life in the context of PTSD.

As I continue refining my research problem, purpose, and question, I am guided by the principles in Creswell's "Qualitative Inquiry & Research Design: Choosing among the Five Approaches" (Creswell, 2016). His emphasis on the importance of a clearly defined purpose and research question in qualitative research is instrumental in shaping my approach to this study.
