Southern New Hampshire University HIS 200: Applied History Q Research for Your Essay Previous Next Research for Your Essay By now, you should have an initial idea of some of the sources you would like to use in your historical analysis essay. Go back and look at Content Navigation firstname_lastname. Writing_Plan to review what you've already written about your relevant search terms, and some of the sources you have chosen to use in preparing your historical event analysis essay. This information above will be useful as you do your research. Now you should spend one to two hours conducting additional research in Shapiro Library for secondary sources and using the primary source databases listed on Page 1 of Module Three: Communicating Historical Ideas, Learning Block 3-3. Remember to apply the A.R.I.A. criteria to your sources. Click here link to download a copy of The A R.I.A. Test Worksheet. You can use this when evaluating the secondary sources you want to use for your historical event analysis essay. Make sure you fill out the worksheet in its entirety-otherwise the test will not be accurate. If the total for the source is 35+ points, it's a good indication that it is credible (remember, though, the more points the better, and the only way for the A.R.I.A. test to work is to be as honest as possible when evaluating each source). If the source scores less than 35 points, look for another source. At this point, you should keep a Word document with the sources you find with as much information about them as possible, including the URLs. This will make them easier to find later, and this information is required for citing your sources in your final essay. Your Sources After conducting your independent research, answer the questions below. What secondary sources (including the two you listed in the draft of your writing plan) do you plan to use in your historical analysis essay? Be specific, and list the name of each source, the author and publication, the date it was published, and where you found the source. What primary sources do you plan to use in your historical analysis essay? Be as specific as possible, and list the name of each source, the author (if applicable) and publication, the date it was published, and where you found the source. It might be useful to save the URLs for these sources so that you can easily find them later. Add your answers to firstname_lastname. Writing_Plan, under the heading Sources. Save this document locally on your computer, you will be asked to submit it to your instructor for feedback and approval at the end of Module Four.. You have reached the end of Learning Block 3-3.
