Andrea and Andrew receive money as a wedding present from their work colleagues and decide to buy an "Easi-Chop" food processor. When deciding on the model to purchase, the buyers had asked for "something idiot-proof as Andrea cannot cook. However, Andrea successfully uses the gift to develop all manner of culinary delights. One Sunday lunchtime, in an attempt to impress her mother in law with her newfound expertise, Andrea decides to make chicken soup using the food processor. She puts the ingredients into the food processor, adds boiling water and turns on the machine. The food processing bowl shatters, causing Andrea to suffer severe burns and lacerations on her hands and face. As a result, Andrea had to spend a few days in hospital, undergo cosmetic surgery and was unable to attend work for 1 month. The food processor's user manual warned users to "take care when using hot liquids" but made no specific reference to boiling water. Recent tests carried out by the Housekeeping Institute (HI have concluded that only certain types of plastic compounds are suitable for production of food processor bowls to be used with high temperature liquids. HI has published their findings and sent copies of the report to all food processor suppliers in the country. Advise the manufacturers and suppliers of Easi-Chop, in relation to Andrea's injuries.
