Angel Photos is a small business that travels around schools (primary and secondary) in Tasmania taking class photographs and individual student photos. These photos are the finest quality when printed and are presented in a high quality display folder. At the time of taking the photographs, the photographic assistant takes orders from students, teachers and parents for the class and individual student photographs. Payment is made by the student, teacher or parent when the photographs are delivered back to the school (i.e. before the photograph is given over, payment must be received). The photographs are delivered by Angel Photos to the school office staff and they distribute them to students, teachers and parents and receive the money at that time. Once all the money is collected by the office staff, it is sent to Angel Photos (together with any uncollected photos), Angel Photos uses a small accounting package to manage its operations-Diamond Accounting Pro. This software runs on a server that is connected to three locally networked computers. Recently there have been complaints that the package has become slow in processing transactions. The server (and indeed network) is also fast approaching capacity. It has not been upgraded for many years and is also handling the business' digital imaging requirements. As a result of the over-stretched system, Angel Photos is considering the possibility of an upgrade to its system. However, the owner/manager of the business, Mrs Clark, is concerned that should it go ahead with the upgrade, the business will have to employ a programmer to develop its new system, as well as a full time IT specialist to keep the system running. Mrs Clark is also unsure as to how to manage the systems development process. Although Mrs Clark does not mind making the investment for a new system now, she needs to ensure that the upgrade is a long term solution for the business. She has stated to the administration staff that "once we spend all of this money and the new system is implemented, we shouldn't have to spend any more money on IT or related services for a long time. b. Is Mrs Clark correct in saying that 'the business will have to employ a programmer to develop its new system"? Explain the alternatives that Angel Photos could use to 'acquire/implement the new system? [4 marks] Identify the key user requirements that would need to be fulfilled by the new system. [4 marks] Would you recommend that Angel Photos make or buy the new system? (marks) d.
