Angular Velocity, Angular Acceleration and Torque Introduction: In this lab we will use the gyroscope tool in the phyphox app to measure the angular velocity of the motion of an arm as it raises and lowers. Procedure: part 1: 'While lying on your back hold your phone straight upwards to the sky with screen facing you. (figure 1a). Press play on the gyroscope app. Now lower your arm straight down so that it almost hits the floor (figure 1b). Then raise it back up (do this in one motion as smoothly as you can). Repeat this motion twice again continuously and smoothly. Then press stop. 'When you look at the data, there will be three axis represented (x,y,z). Make note of the axis that has the greatest range of angular velocities (this is the axis around which you rotated. Transfer the data from this axis to a spreadsheet and graph the data from the axis with greatest range. & Analysis: Transfer the graph you made in excel to a word document and answer the following questions. Use words and indicate on the plot the regions you are describing. (a) What part of your motion (arm up or down) related to the negative angular velocity values? (b) What part of the motion relates to the positive angular velocity values? (c) Where in the motion is the angular acceleration greatest? (d) At what point in the motion is the torque the greatest? (e) Take the two angular velocities on either side of the first point where the angular velocity is zero and use the numbers to calculate the average angular acceleration. part 2: Repeat procedure above of raising and lowering the phone, with phone now in position as shown in fig 1c. Look at the three graphs and note which of the three axis has the greatest range. From this knowledge and the knowledge of the greatest range from part 1, make a picture like the one below (fig 2) with all the axis labeled correctly
