Anica, a junior employee wanted to join the workers union at her workplace, Habbity. She has been told great things about the services and resources the union offers and advice they give.
Anica's boss, Luke, does't like the union. The union organized a workers' strike last year that was very inconvenient for him and caused his department to lose a substantial amount of money. Senior management was not happy and told Luke to take care of the problem.
Upon hearing that Anica has met with the Union representative, Luke calls her into his office and says: 'Anica, I hear you want to join the union. Of course that is your choice. But know that management here does not take kindly to the union or supporters of the union. That union lost us a large amount of money last year and the company does not like trouble makers. As I said, it is your choice, but be careful and make smart decisions that promote your long term employment here at Habbity.'
Anica knows a previous Colleague, Amal, recently departed from Habbity over a private dispute. She knows that Amal took part in the strike last year and was let go shortly afterwards.
Anica is very upset and feels that if she joins the union she will be putting her job in jeopardy. Anica come to you for advice. Advise Anica.
