Annotated Bibliography Assignment

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to help develop students' literature review and referencing skills.

The assignment will also help students to understand the economic and social conditions of

developing countries.

Descriptions: I have assigned each of you a country with a developing economy. Please check Blackboard

under 'Group' where you will see your name listed under a country. Few other people are also assigned

the same country. You are NOT working in group; it is just that a couple of people are assigned the

same country for the purpose of this assignment. After you know your topic/country, you start looking for relevant articles and analyze the current situation of poverty in the country. Your source of analysis will be scholarly journal articles. You are suggested to use the Seneca library database to find the scholarly journal articles.

THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT ASSIGNMENT. YOU MUST FOLLOW ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY TEMPLATE

AND ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS FOUND HERE TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT. To start the work, do

the followings: Say for example, you are assigned a country called Maldives.

1.Find minimum 3 scholarly peer reviewed journal articles in your topic area. In our example

your topic is Maldives, and the articles must be related to the poverty in Maldives.

2.Following the APA style of formatting write annotated bibliography/a critical summary of the

article.

3.The summary should be in 2 paragraphs, double spaced for each of the 3 articles (6 paragraphs

in total). The paragraphs should not be too long, nor too short. Approximately half page to one

page double spaced paragraph is considered good.

Paragraph 1 should deal about: What does the article you selected focus about poverty in your

assigned country?

Paragraph 2 should: Identify and evaluate 3 key points from each of the three selected articles that are

relevant to your topic (country). What are the 3 key issues/points the author talks about in the article?

Write them in sentences and paragraph format, approximately 1-2 sentences per point/issue, a total of

5-6 sentences per article.

You should write a separate summary for each article and follow the Annotated Bibliography Template

posted on the course website to write the summary. Remember! I need you to write 2 paragraphs per

article.

Follow the guidelines available on the Seneca Library on how to write an 'Annotated

Bibliography'.

5.Some Tips:For example, you will find 3 scholarly articles related to poverty in

Maldives. You then need to write 2 paragraphs per article about the poverty in Maldives

based on the information you read in the articles. The articles must be relating to poverty faced by people in

Maldives. They can be in any aspects of poverty. Try finding recent articles, not older than 10

years if possible.

i.When you have decided about the 3 articles that you want to use, then write Annotated

Bibliography. A template for an Annotated Bibliography is also posted on this Blackboard.

ii. You must cite the source in the 1st line of each summary using APA style of referencing. Your

entire text must follow the APA style of formatting too. A marking rubric is posted attached

below, make sure to check it before submitting your work.

iii.

Make sure to check your SafeAssign matching percentage (excluding reference), it should be

less than 15%

Full Title of Annotated Bibliography

Field, J. (2003). Social capital. Psychology Press. In this section, you will be writing the annotation for the source you have cited above.

Anannotated bibliography can simply describe the source (summary annotation) or it can also include an evaluation (evaluative annotation). For summary annotations, briefly write about the source. Focus on describing your source, such as the author's qualifications and why was the source created. Describe the main ideas, arguments, themes, theses, or methodology, and identify the intended audience of the cited source explain the author's expertise, point of view, and any bias he or she may have about the topic.

Journal of Business Ethics, 98, 15-23. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10551-011-1022-7 Evaluative annotations include both a short description and your evaluation of the cited source. In your evaluation, critically assess the selected source for accuracy, relevance, and quality. Compare to other sources on the same topic that you have also cited to show similarities and differences. Explain why each source is useful for your research topic and how it relates to your topic. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the source. Identify the observations or conclusions of the author.

This is an example of a summary annotation. This article focuses on the role of social capital in responsible leadership. It looks at both the social networks that a leader builds within an organization, and the links that a leader creates with external stakeholders. Maak's main aim with this article seems to be to persuade people of the importance of 3 continued research into the abilities that a leader requires and how they can be acquired.

This is an example of an evaluative annotation for the same source as previous. This article focuses on the role of social capital in responsible leadership. It looks at both the social networks that a leader builds within an organization, and the links that a leader creates with external stakeholders. Maak's main aim with this article seems to be to persuade people of the importance of continued research into the abilities that a leader requires and how they can be acquired. The focus on the world of multinational business means that for readers outside this world many of the conclusions seem rather obvious (be part of the solution not part of the problem). In spite of this, the article provides useful background information on the topic of responsible leadership and definitions of social capital which are relevant to an analysis of a public servant
