Question 1 (a) Explain the process or procedure of selection and recruitment of employees in an organisation. Question 2 Mr. Livingstone Okiria is the director of St. Joseph S.S found in Kabarole district. St. Joseph SS is a mixed boarding school operating both 'O' and 'A' levels and has been in existence since 2013. It has a population of 1800 students with 60 teaching staff, 20 non-teaching staff and 10 group employees. The head teacher, Mr. James Kyarugahi, has been heading the school since its inception. In 2019 at the beginning of the academic year, students started complaining about teacher absenteeism, poor feeding, poorly equipped laboratory and unstable teaching timetable. Equally the non-teaching staff and group employees were also complaining of disproportionate remuneration and allowances. Teachers were also not satisfied with what they were being paid when actually in some other months, management leave them unpaid. They were not happy with the general welfare and lack of professionalism among the administrators. During the end of first term staff meeting which was chaired by the director, he informed the staff that there was need for proper team work in future since last year was characterised by challenges. A few staff members were cooperating with administration, and employee staff performance was very low. The director emphasised to members to learn working together as employees and build the system as a team. That much as conflicts arose, there was also need to manage them to avoid poor performance. He noted that some staff members wanted to achieve their personal goals without matching them with those of the school. He called upon administrators to improve on their relations with their fellow teachers other than ignoring staff and students' concerns. That there was need to set up a system that had no ending which should always be improved from time to time according to the demands of stakeholders.

(10 marks) (Total 20 marks) Question 3 Kalibu Dairy Corporation (KDC) is a chain and third largest corporation in Uganda. The fifteen year old firm was started by the late director father, Vincent Onyango, who ran a small dairy in Wakiso town. The founders' five sons expanded the business to what it is today and took it over when their father passed on in 2017. KDC has been in existence since 2005. In 2009, the company realised a net profit of Shs 55 million. Later in 2012, they realized a profit after tax of Shs 100 million. Management reported a growth in sales revenue of Shs 500 million during the financial year 2017. KDC is indeed one of the largest companies in this country. It is led by three brothers who serve as executive directors in the capacity of chairman, managing director, and finance and administration director respectively. The company also has external directors; two of the five brothers and their two sisters together holding 30% in the yoghurt company for KDC. The four brothers also hold 17.5% each in the same company. The firm has trade links with related family businesses many of which family members are members of the board. At the heart of the dispute is the appointment of a non-family member in the senior position of finance director. The dispute threatens the continuation of KDC since a few corporate governance issues came into face. The introduction of non- executive directors and constitution of the directors into working committees like the remuneration, investment, operations and audit committees could go a long way in addressing some of the issues that have become a subject of criminal investigations. Roles need to be explained much as they are from same family, differences between executive and non- executive directors have to be explained to avoid conflict and keep the company running. There is need to review reports made by different managers so as to ensure good working relations at KDC.
