Answer questions after reading the below case carefully.

1. Solve the simple LP problem "Wood Products company manufacturing" using Excel Solver LP Simplex. Submit the Answer Report and Sensitivity Analysis Report available from Solver. Allow the answers to be non-integers. This means if Desks had a profit of $2 each, you might make 2.5 desks and have a profit of $5.

2. Answer and submit the following questions by interpreting the Answer Report. Include all work in your answers.

  1. In the Answer Report there are values for five (5) optimal outputs? Identify the five outputs, clearly defining what the numbers represent with their dimensions (e.g. dollars, hours, etc.).
  2. What is meant by Slack variables? Define them in terms of this manufacturing company (there are two slack variables).
  3. The constraints are labeled as "Binding or Not Binding". What do you think this means?
  4. Consider changes to the data in the problem. What if the number of available hours in Department 1 increased from 12 to 14 hours? How would the optimal solution change?
  5. The optimal solution to this problem includes the decision to make zero Tables. How would the optimal solution change if market conditions forced you to make one table?

Original doc:

Wood Products Inc. makes two products, Tables and Desks. They produce these products using a two-stage process designated as Department I and Department II. In Dept I, the raw lumber is processed into pieces of wood that can be used for either product. In Dept II, the tables and desks are assembled. Therefore, every product must go through both departments.

The products are sold at a profit of $1 for each table and $2 for each desk. In Department I it takes 2 hours to process wood for a table and 3 hours to process wood for a desk. In Dept II they use 5 hours to make a table and 2 hours to make a desk. In the current production period, Dept I has 12 hours available and Dept II has 15 hours available.

What production schedule will maximize profit?
