In modern medicine practice, there is little to no link between modern medicine and outside sociocultural factors. The truth is, an overall well-being involves physical and mental health. In both Ted Talks, How culture connects to healing and recovery by Fayth Parks and Culture matters - in health, illness, life and death by Haris Agic, the aforementioned statement is theorized.

In her Ted Talk, psychologist Fayth Parks explores the topic of how modern healthcare systems are neutral and do not incorporate culture as much as they should. She mentioned that the brain is directly linked with the immune system, and that they communicate. It can be deducted, therefore, that a healthy and happy brain will ensure a healthy and happy body. Fayth also talked about the findings in one of her studies about African American healing traditions, and concluded that there were four main themes- spirituality, ritual, power-of-words, and dreams. Fayth drew a connection between how healing traditions around different cultures that she studied also used those four main themes. The ideal situation would be to combine culture- possibly in the form of healing traditions- with modern medicine. This way, not only will the body be healed, but the mind and soul as well.

Like Fayth, Haris Agic talked about how culture can aid a person's well being in his Ted Talk, but Agic took a different approach than Fayth. Agic's focus was on music and how it can unite and heal people. People have different ways of coping, it is natural for each person to find their preferred method and stick to it. Agic proved that through art, in the form of music in his example, people can bond through shared emotions in the form of collective effervescence. It is not a matter of choosing culture over science when dealing with a person's health, it is simply the act of integrating both principles that will truly heal a person inside and out.
