APPLICATION SETTING: An oil and gas company where the student has been hired as an intern.

PURPOSE: To highlight the importance of applying elemental geological concepts to project decision making utilizing basic data handling techniques.

Note: As stated in class, the student who are at least aware of these basic tools have shown to be the last to get laid$-$off during tense economic phases of any economy where they may be situated. When the economy rebounds, these students$-$employees are usually the ones who are moved to favorable positions either in their present company or another organization that may present itself.

The Job Application Setting: You have just finished your internship and the company is offering you a position which you have accepted. Furthermore, you have an option in working in one of three divisions. Note: Each division is part of the company$$s exploration division in which each one is dealing with a different geological structures and sands. Each are as follows:

Arbuckle

Miocene

Woodbine

Smackover

Note: You learned in class that oil companies usually pay out bonuses at the end of the year and this is based on production or some other productive formula. Hence, utilizing both porosity and permeability ratings of each sand which one would you choose and why.
