Scene A - Everyone wants to be us
In the scene "Everyone wants to be us" from The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda revealed that Andrea had chosen to betray her colleague, Emily, in similar fashion that she had done to Nigel, in order to advance in her career. Andrea said "I didn't have a choice..." when she was accused by Miranda. Miranda responded "No, you chose, you chose to get ahead. You want this life? Those choices are necessary." In saying that she did not have a choice, she is contradicting the fundamentals of existentialism in Sartre's lecture "Existentialism is Humanism", which purposed that choices are made freely by humans to define their lives, but this freedom to choose also prevents us from escaping the responsibility of our actions, and the severity of our commitment to represent humanity as a whole. Therefore, every situation you encounter in life is a result of the choices you have made, and the responsibility of your freedom to choose cannot be denied.
