Applied Ethics

The man who gave everything

Watch the video The man who gave everything (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9TOWIc_KLU&ab_channel=IrakliDarchiashvili) and discuss the rich man's attitudes. Post a separate comment and interact with at least someone else's post.

Questions to be addressed:

  • Would there be any moral expectations about this rich man?
  • Why is he acting this way?
  • What would be the ethical reasoning behind his attitudes?

Someone else's post:

"The moral expectation of the rich man is that by first donating his wealth, he can provide the relief to the world. In the world, it is also expected off rich to donate or seen as selfish. Today, people see guys like Jeff Bezos as selfish as they don't contribute enough to end world hunger. Similarly, the expectations about rich is they would contribute to charity and help the world of many issues.

He is acting this way because of his beliefs. There is not enough evidence through the video to convince that he may be going through some of awakening or emotional turmoil. The video suggests that he intentions towards caring for world go past his morale. He seems to be in distress, hence the hunger to constantly give everything past his wealth didn't stop. His desire to give everything may seem positive at times but it also suggests the loneliness the man suffers.

Most human beings tie wealth with happiness. I believe this man has gone through some hard battles in life and all the wealth in the world can't keep him satisfied. He decision to continue to donate organs suggests that he's suffering through some type of psychological depression. His suffering is telling him that he's not doing enough past giving away his wealth."
